The cross-field superman literature of 1869–2005, acquired August 2026 for the comparison the lecture's title demands: Galton's hereditary-worth programme, Nietzsche's Übermensch, Shaw's Life-Force supermen, Bergson's creative evolution, Beresford's and Wells's superhuman fictions, and Bernal's engineering-transcendence programme — the rival supermen beside which Stapledon's “superhumanism” was preached, and which it refuses — closed at the modern end by Bostrom's transhumanist self-definition, the movement that later claimed this whole shelf as ancestry. The comparison itself is now written: Superhumanisms: Stapledon among the Supermen, the project's third monograph, reads the 1934 lecture against every text on this shelf, with verified citations into these pages.
